TUCSON, Ariz.– Arizona's No. 1 pair of Madison and
McKenna Witt was selected to compete and represent University of Arizona at the 2017 USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach on Monday.
The leading senior duo recently tied for third at the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Pairs Championships. UA's Witt twins garnered a (21-8) season record and an (85-33) career record. With 10 consecutive wins, the Witt's hold longest winning streak on the team for the 2016-17 season.
"I'm really proud of Madison and McKenna," said head coach
Steve Walker. "Madison was not feeling her best during the team portion of this competition. Luckily we got that right, and we played some really great volleyball. I was telling them, empty the tank and play to themselves, and it really shows what dedication, hard work, and being coachable can do for you. The twins started here with zero beach experience except for maybe one youth tournament and turned themselves into All-Americans and really high level performers all because of the hard work they put in."
Madison and
McKenna Witt were also awarded All-Tournament Team at the Pac-12 Championships.
The USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships will be head on the coast in Hermosa Beach, Calif. on May 11-13. The competition consists of 24 women's pairs and eight men's pairs, playing for a title which will earn them a spot on a USA Volleyball collegiate national team.
Arizona's No. 1 team is not done yet, the Witt's will head to California to play for the indoor Cal Baptist Volleyball team for one more year as a grad transfers.
