Wildcats Lead After Day One of Windy City Collegiate Classic

WILMETTE, Ill. -- Day one of the Windy City Collegiate Classic included 36 holes of golf, a phenomenal debut from freshman Ya-Chun Chang, and a one-shot lead for the Cats.
Chang recorded five birdies in her opening round to shoot a 1-over par 73. She followed that up with three more birdies in the second round and an even-par 72. A 1-over total through two rounds is good for a tie for 16th.
As a team, the Cats finished the first round in third place with a 1-over par 289. Senior Bianca Pagdanganan and junior Sandra Nordaas both contributed 1-under 71s. Sophomore Yu-Sang Hou posted a first-round 74, and senior Haley Moore rounded out the team with a 77.
The Wildcats got off to a slow start in the second round, but collected 12 birdies on the second nine to finish in the lead at 1-under, one shot ahead of No. 4 USC.
Haley Moore birdied her final two holes to post 4-under on her second nine and card a 71 on the round, which put the Cats ahead by one.
Nordaas shot a second nine 34 to finish her round at even-par and 1-under for the tournament. She is one behind the team leader Pagdanganan, who repeated her first-round performance of 71, and sits in a tie for sixth at 2-under.
"I'm super proud of the team today," said head coach Laura Ianello. "They fought hard, led by Bianca Pagdanganan and Sandra Nordaas. They came up huge for us today and our freshman Ya-Chun Chang played really well even with one really bad hole. The conditions are very tough. It's cold and wet and we played in a little bit of rain today. Tomorrow the weather should be the same and we're playing with USC and ASU. It's going to be a great matchup. Hopefully the team can build on the momentum they made in the second round today, making a lot of birdies and finishing strong. Haley Moore finished her round playing really well and I know Yu-Sang Hou can come back tomorrow and shoot an under par round."
Yu-Sang Hou will start the Cats off at 7 a.m. MST tomorrow morning, and Bianca Pagdanganan will be the last off the tee at 7:36 a.m. MST.
