TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 25 Arizona volleyball completed its 2-0 weekend at home with a four-set victory over Utah (26-24, 25-13, 25-18, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon at McKale.
Arizona (16-6, 5-5 Pac-12) was solid on both sides of the net on Sunday, putting up 59 kills on .233 hitting while blocking 13 attacks and digging 73 others. UA's 13 blocks tied a season high while its 73 digs were its most since its 81 at Oregon on Sept. 28.
Kendra Dahlke, who left the match due to injury in the fourth set, led the Cats with 21 kills, her seventh 20-plus kill effort this season and 14th of her career. The senior had eight digs, three blocks and an ace as well.
Katie Smoot was also in double figures for the Cats with 11 kills on .417 hitting. She added four blocks and an ace on the afternoon.
Devyn Cross was in on nine of UA's 13 blocks in the match, tying the junior's career high. She added seven kills as well.
Four different Wildcats had double-digit digs in the match.
Makenna Martin tied her season high with 18 to lead the way while
Paige Whipple notched 13,
Julia Patterson had 11 and
Emi Pua'a totaled 10 digs. Patterson's 11 digs came alongside 44 assists, good for her fourth double-double in the last five matches.
Arizona's win over Utah brought the Cats to .500 in Pac-12 play midway through the conference season (5-5). Arizona remains at home to start the second half when it welcomes Oregon State (Friday) and Oregon (Sunday) to McKale next week.
S1 (Arizona 26, Utah 24): Arizona's offense piled up 20 kills, eight from
Kendra Dahlke and five from
Devyn Cross, as the Cats outlasted Utah, 26-24, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Julia Patterson assisted 17 of UA's 20 kills while the defense dug 21 balls.
S2 (Arizona 25, Utah 13): Arizona outhit Utah .367 - .000 in the second set and picked up their most decisive set victory since winning the second set by the same 25-13 score at Oregon State (Sept. 30).Â
S3 (Utah 25, Arizona 18): Utah repaid the favor with a dominant 25-18 victory in the third set to force a fourth set. Utah hit .379 while holding the Wildcats to an .034 mark.
S4 (Arizona 25, Utah 20): Arizona posted 17 kills and 30 digs, including 10 from
Makenna Martin, in a 25-20 victory to seal the match.Â
