Time Change: Arizona's Match vs. Grand Canyon Moved Up Due to Rain

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona Beach Volleyball will kick off its fall schedule on Saturday, Oct. 13 against Grand Canyon at Bear Down Beach. Due to expected rain in the afternoon on Saturday, the event has been moved up to 7:30 a.m. from its originally scheduled time (10 a.m.).
This will be the first of four fall events that the Wildcats will participate in this fall. The exhibition matches will not count toward UA's 2019 record. UA is 2-1 all-time against the Lopes with their last meeting being a 4-1 home win for Arizona on April 1st, 2017.
The match will be free of charge and fans are encouraged to bring towels and/or foldable chairs for seating.
The Wildcats have a balanced roster of newcomers and veterans with six freshman and eight returning players, seven of which saw regular season action last year. Freshman Jasmine Sagar, Ainise Havili, and Madison Rigdon join the team at the Blocker position, while Sarah Blacker and Georgia Kobel are set to play as Split Blockers. Dana Parker represents the lone defender of the freshman class.
There are two seniors among the Wildcats' eight returners. Senior Mia Mason posted an 8-11 record as a defender last year, while redshirt senior Jordan Abalos is set to play her final season as a split blocker for Arizona after three years of indoor volleyball at New Mexico State.
The Wildcats have four returning juniors, all of which play as defenders. Natalie Anselmo posted a 20-12 regular season record last season playing mostly on court one (16-12). She is joined by fellow juniors Brooke Burling (22-9), Olivia Hallaran (14-11), and Sarah Watanabe (1-5).
The final two returners for the Cats are sophomore defender Jonny Baham and redshirt blocker Caroline Cordes. Baham posted a 24-8 record last season playing mostly on courts four (13-2) and five (9-6), while Cordes posted a 12-7 record playing mostly on court five (12-5).
