Down Four Starters, UA Can't Finish off Road Sweep

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Down four starters, 21st-ranked Arizona volleyball was unable to complete the Pacific Northwest road sweep, as the Cats rank out of gas against Washington, which won the final three sets to win the match, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-15.

Already down two starters entering the weekend -- Kendra Dahlke (foot) and Elizabeth Shelton (concussion) -- the Wildcats lost two more starters in their win at Washington State on Friday night -- Devyn Cross (concussion) and Makenna Martin (groin). Without four starters, the Wildcats were unable to pull out the victory vs. the Huskies. The Cats won the first set and battled in a close loss in the second, but Washington ran away with the match in the third and fourth sets.

Julia Patterson had her sixth straight double-double, putting her in the Pac-12 lead with 14 on the season. Patterson dished out 38 assists while digging a team-best 18 balls, tying her career high.

Zyonna Fellows, starting her first career match in place of the injured Cross, led the team with five blocks and posted four kills offensively, both bests in the freshman's young career.

Paige Whipple led the Wildcats with 14 kills. She added 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the year.

Emi Pua'a, who started at libero for the injured Martin, had 17 of UA's 66 digs on the night, her most since a 19-dig effort vs. UC Davis on Sept. 15.

Arizona fell to 18-8, 7-7 Pac-12 with the loss while Washington improved to 15-9, 7-7 Pac-12. UA will return to the road next week to face Utah (Friday) and Colorado (Sunday).

(Set 1: Arizona 25, Washington 22): Arizona stormed back from six down to win the first set, 25-22. The Wildcats were down 11-5 early, but used a 14-5 rally to take control of the frame. Paige Whipple led the Cats with five kills in the first set.

(Set 2: Washington 25, Arizona 23): Washington dominated the second set until the Cats fought off five consecutive set points to cut what was a 24-18 UW lead to 24-23. The Huskies finished it off though, to tie the match at 1.

(Set 3: Washington 25, Arizona 18): Arizona had just five kills in the third set as the Huskies dominated with a 25-18 victory.

(Set 4: Washington 25, Arizona 15): Washington ran away with the fourth set and the match.
