Cats Sweep ULM, Montana on Saturday

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona defeated ULM 4-0 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader before downing Montana 2-1.

UA is back in action on Saturday at 1 and 3 to close out the Hillenbrand Invitational. The full schedule can be found HERE.

Game 1 - Arizona 4, ULM 0

Alyssa Denham tossed her first shutout in a Wildcat uniform, striking out five ULM batters and allowing five hits in the complete-game victory, leading the Wildcats to a 4-0 win in the 2018 home opener.

All four Arizona runs scored on homers, as UA hit three bombs for the fourth consecutive game, bringing their season total to 15 in six games. Reyna Carranco, Jessie Harper and Alyssa Palomino all homered for UA. For Harper, it was her fifth homer in three games.

UA's offense put constant pressure on ULM's three pitchers; Arizona had 12 hits in the contest, but stranded nine runners. Carranco led the team with a three hits, the most by a Wildcat this season, for her third straight multi-hit game of 2017. She's hitting .542 six games into the season. Harper and Krist had multi-hit games for the Cats as well.

Arizona jumped on top with a Carranco homer in the bottom of the first, her second of the season.

Carranco just missed her second homer of the game with a double off the top of the wall to lead off the bottom of the fifth. The next batter, Harper, homered her home to put the Cats up 3-0.

Palomino led off the bottom of the sixth with a pinch-hit homer to put the Cats up 4-0.

Game 2 - Arizona 2, Montana 1

Taylor McQuillin struck out 11 in her complete-game gem, improving to 4-1 on the season, as UA edged Montana, 2-1 in the nightcap.

McQuillin was supported by just two Wildcat runs, both via a Mulipola homer in the third, but it would be enough for McQuillin, who allowed just two hits in the outing, both in the first inning.

Montana's Delene Colburn hit a solo homer in the top of the first to give the Grizzlies the early lead.

After being held off the scoreboard in the first two innings, Dejah Mulipola put the Cats on top with a two-run homer in the third.
