TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State Beavers (22-6, 13-4) defeated the Arizona Wildcats (6-22, 2-15) by a score of 65-40 in McKale Center on Friday night. Marie Gulich posted a double-double for the Beavers with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Oregon State's size was a factor as the Beavers scored 34 points in the paint and limited the Wildcats to only 10 points in the painted area. OSU shot 47% from the field in the ballgame while holding Arizona to only 27%. UA only had seven turnovers in the game but couldn't get it going from behind the arc shooting 3 of 16 for the game.
Destiny Graham led the way for Arizona posting 13 points and nine rebounds in 32 minutes, coming only one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season.
The Beavers jumped out to a 23-9 lead at the end of the first quarter while Graham led the way for the Cats scoring all nine of Arizona's first quarter points. Oregon State extended their lead to 35-16 at the end of the first half by shooting 55% from the field with 13 assists on 16 made baskets. UA struggled from the field in the first half shooting only 22% from the field and 18% from the 3-point line.
In the third quarter the Cats cut the lead to 14 with five minutes to play in the third, however the Beavers then extended the lead again to 52-30 as the third quarter ended. In the fourth quarter the Cats battled but couldn't climb back into the ballgame.
Arizona will play the final game of the regular season at home against Oregon on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. MST at the McKale Center.
