SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Cats dropped a 2-0 decision to top-ranked Washington, which swept Arizona in three low-scoring, close affairs. This was the first game of the series that did not require extra innings to settle.
Taylor McQuillin allowed just two runs on four hits, but her effort in the circle wasn't enough as her counterpart Taran Alvelo threw a one-hit shutout. McQuillin struck out six in the game; Alvelo fanned eight.
Ashleigh Hughes managed UA's lone hit in the game, a one-out single in the first. Alvelo retired the final 20 batters she faced.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo homer.
Back-to-back doubles opened the bottom of the fourth for Washington to double its lead.
