TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's golf team completed the first two rounds of play at the Wildcat Invitational on Monday at Sewailo Golf Club. The Cats enter the final round of play in second place at 4-under par after rounds of 284 (-4) and 288 (E).
"Super proud of the team, they fought really hard," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We had some relapses at the end but Yu-Sang our freshman came out and shot 4-under in the morning, I'm super proud of her. Gigi Stoll had a career low round. It just shows that we're going in the right direction. I know it's our home course, but I think we ran out of energy a little at the end, there are no excuses. After a good nights rest, I think the players should be pumped and ready to go tomorrow. I have faith that this team can get the victory. UCLA is a great team; they obviously played really well today, also Texas, UNLV, and Long Beach State all had great rounds today. This is our home turf and we want to protect it, so hopefully we will get the job done."
Junior Gigi Stoll led the way for the Cats posting rounds of 74 (+2) and 66(-6). The 6-under par second round for Stoll was a career low, and puts her in a tie for 3rd place entering the final round of play on Tuesday. In her second round she had five birdies as well as an eagle on the fifth hole.
Freshman Yu-Sang Hou carded rounds of 68 (-4) and 75 (+3) and is in a tie for 12th at 1-under par. Junior Bianca Pagdanganan is tied for 16th after she shot two rounds of even par. Junior Haley Moore posted rounds of 70 (-2) and 75 (+3) and is in a tie for 21st place. Moore jumped out to a fantastic start by birdieing five of her first six holes of the day as she started on the third hole. Freshman Cecilie Bofill is tied for 74th after carding rounds of 77 (+5) and 79 (+7).
Sophomore Sandra Nordaas, junior Desiree Hong, and senior Natalia Forero are the three Wildcats who are competing in the event as individuals. Nordaas is tied for 36th place after carding rounds of 71 (-1) and 77 (+5). Hong who is competing in her first career event as a Wildcat posted rounds of 74 (+2) and 82 (+10), which is tied for 73rd place. Forero is tied for 70th place after carding round of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6).
In the second round the conditions became much tougher with the average score nearly four strokes over par at 75.96. The first round scoring average was 74.49.
