Cats Fall in Game 2, 7-3

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Fourth-ranked UCLA clinched the series with a 7-3 victory on Saturday night at Hillenbrand Stadium, in front of a season-high 2,629 fans. Game 3 is Sunday at 5 p.m. MST.

UCLA plated seven runs on 11 hits, including two, two-run home runs. The Cats managed three runs on six hits in the contest.

After being held without a runner in scoring position for the first three innings, UCLA went on the score two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, using late offensive pressure much like in game 1.

Jenna Kean went 2-for-3 with a triple and Dejah Mulipola went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the UA offense.

Alyssa Denham (5-3) took the loss for Arizona. She allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits with one strikeout in six innings. Hanah Bowen pitched one inning of relief and gave up three runs on four hits.

Rachel Garcia (12-1) earned the victory in relief for UCLA. She pitched the final four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with six strikeouts. She relieved Holly Azevedo, who gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits in the first three innings.

Arizona fell to 27-11, 6-8 Pac-12 while UCLA improved to 36-3, 11-3 Pac-12.

In the third, UA loaded the bases with no one out, but settled for one run on an Alyssa Palomino sacrifice fly to take the early lead.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Bubba Nickles hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to put the Bruins on top.

The Cats tied the game with help from a pair of UCLA errors on a sacrifice bunt in the fourth inning.

UCLA retook the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs on three hits with the help of a Wildcat error.

A two-run home run put the Bruins on top 6-2 in the sixth.

The teams traded runs in the seventh.
