LEADING OFF
  • UA will look to get back on track after being swept by No. 4 UCLA last week, the second straight sweep against the Cats. UA welcomes New Mexico State for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
  • Arizona is wrapping up five straight weekends vs. ranked Pac-12 opponents. After facing No. 1 Washington, No. 22 California and No. 5 Oregon and No. 4 UCLA. Arizona is set to face No. 8 Arizona State this weekend.
  • The Wildcats are averaging 1.6 home runs per game at home this season and 1.3 per game overall, sixth best in the country. No one likes hitting at Hillenbrand more than Alyssa Palomino, who's batting .448 with seven home runs in 20 games at home this season.
  • Jessie Harper and Alyssa Palomino are tied for second in the Pac-12 with 12 home runs each. They are one behind the leader, Oregon's Gwen Svekis. Harper and Palomino are tied for 27th nationally.
  • Alyssa Palomino top five in the Pac-12 in batting average (5th - .411), slugging percentage (3rd - .795), on-base percentage (5th - .492) and home runs (2nd - 12). She is the only player in the Pac-12 hitting better than .410 with double-digit home runs.
  • Taylor McQuillin is tied for second in the NCAA with nine shutouts. Three of them have come against ranked teams, including one-hitters vs. No. 4 Oklahoma (2/24) and No. 22 Cal (3/29). She also has a no-hitter this season (2/11 vs. New Mexico).
  • Despite returning six starters and 12 letterwinners from the 2017 Pac-12 Championship team, seven of the nine positions feature a new face in 2018. Only two players (catcher Dejah Mulipola and second baseman Reyna Carranco) are in the same position as last year; Jessie Harper (1B to SS), Alyssa Palomino (CF to 1B), Ashleigh Hughes (RF to CF) are all playing new positions.
  • Head Coach Mike Candrea is second in NCAA history with 1,547 career victories, 15 behind Michigan's Carol Hutchins (1,562).
  • The top five Wildcat hitters (by batting average) are all sophomores. The sophomore class is hitting .350 with 37 home runs while all other classes are hitting a combined .257 with 13 home runs.
  • Ashleigh Hughes has hit safely in 10 of Arizona's last 12 games; the senior is leading the team in batting average by a wide margin in those 12 games (she's hitting .349, the rest of the team is hitting .201). Hughes has two homers in that span and four this year in 33 games. In her first three years at Arizona, Hughes hit three total homers in 156 games.
