Davis Drives in Five as Cats Sweep Beavers

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Ivy Davis hit a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning, four of her career-high five RBI, and Arizona put the finishing touches on its third conference sweep this season, run-ruling Oregon State, 9-1, in six innings in front of 2,502 fans at Hillenbrand Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Davis' grand slam was the first of her career and fourth home run in Arizona's last 10 games. It marked Arizona's first grand slam of 2018.

Jessie Harper also homered in the game, a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the sixth. The sophomore tied Alyssa Palomino atop the Pac-12 lead in home runs (15). UA hit two home runs in every game of the series to bring its season total to 65.

The offensive outburst supported another Taylor McQuillin gem. She allowed one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in the victory. McQuillin improved to 21-9 on the season with the victory.

Seven of the nine Wildcats recorded hits in the game, including two-hit days from Reyna Carranco and Harper.

Sunday's win was Arizona's second run-rule victory of the series; UA defeated Oregon State 9-0 in five innings in game 1. UA entered the series without a mercy victory in conference play since April 9, 2017 (Stanford).

Arizona (35-13, 11-10 Pac-12) plated a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third to grab the lead. Jessie Harper led off the inning with a double and scored on OSU's first error of the inning. Another error helped load the bases for Ivy Davis with one out; the freshman delivered with a sacrifice fly to put Arizona on top, 2-0.

Oregon State (26-22, 7-11 Pac-12) cut the lead in half on a solo homer in the bottom the fourth.

In the fourth, Arizona took advantage of four walks, including RBI walks for Malia Martinez and Joelle Krist, to plate two runs and take a 4-1 lead after four innings.

Harper led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run, her second in as many games and 15th of the year. A walk, an error and a single loaded the bases for Davis, who ended the game with a grand slam to right field.
