Denham, Cats Pick Up 11th Straight Win, Fifth Straight Shutout

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Alyssa Denham extended Arizona's consecutive shutout streak to five games and consecutive scoreless innings streak to 34.1 straight, tossing a three-hit shutout and leading No. 9 Arizona to a series-clinching, 4-0 victory over Stanford on Friday evening at Smith Family Stadium.

The win was the 11th consecutive for Arizona; UA has not allowed more than two runs during its current winning streak. Arizona's five straight shutouts and 34.1 straight scoreless innings represent the longest such streaks since UA threw six straight shutouts from from Feb. 25 to March 16, 2012.

The victory was Arizona's 40th of the year, marking UA's fifth straight 40-win season and 31st in program history. The Cats improved to 40-13, 13-10 Pac-12, while Stanford fell to 23-31, 2-21 Pac-12. Arizona will go for its fourth conference sweep on Saturday when the teams meet in the regular season finale at 12 p.m. MST.

Arizona scored its four runs on nine hits. The Cats hit four doubles in the game, their most since a five-double outing against Utah on March 18. Jenna Kean, Reyna Carranco, Alyssa Palomino and Dejah Mulipola all had two-baggers in the game. Palomino and Mulipola's doubles were half of their two-hit games.

Carranco led the UA offense with two RBI while Palomino and Jessie Harper had one apiece.

Alyssa Palomino doubled home Jenna Kean to give the Wildcats the early lead three batters into the game.

In the third, Kean led off with her second double of the season and moved to third on a Palomino single. Jessie Harper followed with her 50th RBI of the season, a sharp single to left, to put the Cats up 2-0. UA would then load the bases with one out, but could not add more to its lead.

Hillary Edior led off the fourth with a walk. Her pinch runner, Ivy Davis, moved to second on a Carli Campbell single that put two on for Reyna Carranco. The sophomore split the outfielders with her career-best 12th double, an opposite-field two bagger that plated two and doubled UA's lead to 4-0.

Up next: Arizona and Stanford conclude their series at 12 p.m on Saturday on the Pac-12 Network.
