Stoll Victorious at 117th Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur

Gigi Stoll’s strong summer play continues with impressive win.

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women's golfer Gigi Stoll turned in yet another remarkable performance as she captured the 117th Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur Championship this past week. The championship was held at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash., and conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).

Stoll, a native of Tigard, Ore., defeated Alivia Brown of Gig Harbor, Wash., 2&1 to win on Friday. It was yet another strong match play performance for Stoll, who keyed the Wildcats in several critical matches on their way to the 2018 national championship in May.

"I'd say this is my second-biggest accomplishment," Stoll said after her PNGA victory. "Nothing beats winning the NCAA championship. But playing in this tournament, beating a lot of really good players and getting this win really feels good."

Stoll, the No. 2 seed in the bracket, never trailed in her match with Brown, and had a 4-up lead after the morning round in their 36-hole match. After Stoll won the opening hole for a 5-up lead to start the afternoon match, Brown fought back, but Stoll's lead was never less than two holes.

Although score is not technically kept during match play, Stoll shot an 8-under 64 in the morning round of the championship match.

"Alivia is a great player, and I knew there weren't going to be many bogeys today," Stoll said. "So I went into the match with the attitude that I needed to go after it right away."

Stoll made it to the quarterfinals of last year's PNGA Women's Amateur, and has been named PNGA Women's Player of the Year three times (2014, 2015, 2017). She has also won the Oregon Women's Amateur three times (2014, 2015, 2017) and the Oregon Junior Amateur three times (2011, 2013, 2014).

In June, Stoll took home medalist honors at the 109th Oregon Women's Amateur.
