Record 11 Wildcats Earn Scholastic All-American Award

The GymCats posted the third-highest GPA among Pac-12 teams in 2018.
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's gymnastics team established a new program record with 11 student-athletes earning Scholastic All-American Awards from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
Scholastic All-America Awards are presented to student-athletes who earn a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) during an academic year. Wildcats receiving the award this year include Christina Berg, Courtney Cowles, Haylie Hendrickson, Heather Swanson, Jenny Leung, Kennady Schneider, Laura Leigh Horton, Lauryn Mattson, Madelaine Leydin, Madison Cindric and Sydney Freidin.
From a team perspective, Arizona also ranked No. 18 nationally in GPA, tallying a 3.5693 team GPA. That mark ranked third-best in the Pac-12 Conference and was boosted by nearly three-quarters of the Wildcats' roster earning a Scholastic All-America Award.
During the spring, nine Wildcats earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors, including Cowles and Leydin, who were first team selections.
The WCGA is the advocate for women's collegiate gymnastics. Until this month, the coaches' association was known as the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.
