MacKinzie Kane is a freshman from Gilbert, Ariz. Originally from Tucson, Kane grew up a fan of the GymCats and is excited to contribute to the team this year.
How old were you when you started gymnastics?
I started gymnastics when I was three years old.
What is your favorite event and why?
My favorite event is bars, and it just so happens to be my best event. I just love the feeling of being weightless and flying through the air.
What is fun and special about collegiate gymnastics?
Collegiate gymnastics is fun and special in its own way. Being a gymnast on a college team, you get to be around a bunch of girls that become your sisters, travel around the country, and make a multitude of memories. I can't wait to start off my college career here at the University of Arizona with the GymCats.
What made U of A stand out when you were being recruited?
The U of A stood out to me when I was being recruited because this is the college that I have always dreamed of attending since I was a little girl flipping around in gym class. Also, I grew up going to GymCat meets and aspiring to be just like them. Now I will hopefully be the one inspiring young gymnasts like my past self.
Favorite motivational quote?
"Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear." – Tony Robbins
Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?
My favorite professional athlete is Carly Patterson. She was my inspiration to get into the sport of gymnastics. After I watched her compete in the Olympics, I just knew that gymnastics was for me.
What is your dream job after college?
My dream job after college is to be a pediatric physician assistant.
Do you have any siblings?
I have a younger brother. He is two years younger than me and both of our birthdays are in the month of September.
Who is your celebrity crush?
My celebrity crush is Liam Hemsworth.
What is a hobby you have outside of gymnastics?
My favorite hobby outside of gymnastics is swimming.
What is your favorite GymCat memory thus far?
My favorite GymCat memory so far occurred at one of our 6:30 a.m. swim workouts. I was kicking on the kick board during a relay race and everyone was cheering me on, even the girls on the opposing team. I felt like I was a part of an indestructible team at this moment in time. I have full confidence that this team is going to accomplish amazing things this year.
