Arizona Athletics hosted Hispanic Heritage Night on Saturday, Sept. 2018 on the campus of the University of Arizona. The special night in Southern Arizona came as the Wildcats' football team welcomed USC to Arizona Stadium. It was a day full of special festivities as all of campus celebrated the rich and unique cultural history of the community.
In addition to the usual pregame pep rally, tailgating and pageantry of Saturday, Arizona Athletics worked with UA Alumni Association, the UA Hispanic Alumni Club, and the UA Government and Community Relations to host a special pregame tailgate next to the Coca-Cola Fan Fiesta. Proud media partners Univision AZ, UniMas AZ, KCMT La Caliente, and La Buena 94.3 added additional music and dancing to fans.
Mariachi bands serenaded patrons entering Arizona Stadium before kickoff and local musician DJ Herm provided Latina music pregame. Scoreboards continued the Hispanic Heritage Night activities, displaying the teams as Los Gatos and Los Troyanos. Mariachi music and folklorico dancing were also incorporated into the halftime performance.
Hispanic Heritage Night was a great stage to recognize and celebrate the importance of Hispanic culture in Southern Arizona. It brought our great supporters to our beautiful campus while giving fans an opportunity to experience what makes Tucson special.
