The NCAA Committee on Infractions has released its findings and penalties associated with rules violations by former coaches of the University of Arizona swimming and diving program in 2017. The university respects and appreciates the diligence and fairness provided by both the NCAA enforcement staff and the hearing panel throughout this process.
The committee's report did recognize multiple mitigating factors, including the institution's prompt acknowledgement and investigation, self-reporting of the matter, the institution taking affirmative steps to expedite a final resolution and the institution's established history of self-reporting violations.
"The university self-reported that rules violations occurred within the swimming and diving program," said Vice President and Director of Athletics
Dave Heeke. "It is clear that the two former coaches did not uphold the values and expectations that the University of Arizona, President Robert Robbins and I have for all staff members. We have taken decisive steps in recent years to enhance our compliance culture, improve oversight and increase accountability."
The report also noted that this case did not warrant a failure to monitor or an institutional control charge as the institution had policies and procedures designed to detect and deter violations as well as an effective rules education program.
