CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Arizona Wildcats Men's Golf Program finished the first day of play at the Oregon State Invitational in fourth place. The Wildcats are currently at seven-over par, placing them behind Oregon State (-18), San Francisco (-1) and Utah (+6). The second round of play was suspended due to darkness. The field will complete the second round Tuesday morning before playing the final 18 holes of the tournament.
"The course is generous off the tee and the greens and hole locations require a great plan and solid execution," said head coach Jim Anderson. "The top of our lineup carried us and we missed having a fourth score to keep us close. We have one more day and we plan to do a better job top to bottom getting five scores under par. The team will adjust a few things, particularly on the greens, and we will try to climb into position with a great round."
Senior Briggs Duce sits at the highest spot on the leaderboard for the Wildcats. He is tied for fourth at four-under par. Duce finished the day with 11 birdies in 35 holes and an eagle on the 14th hole of his second round. He still has one hole left in his second round.
Junior Trevor Werbylo sits in 12th place. He shot an even-par 71 in the first round and is even in his second round with two holes to play. Werbylo sunk six birdies for the day. Senior David Laskin is tied for 17th with a score of one over par, closing out the day with eight birdies. He is -1 in his second round with one hole to play.
Senior Brad Reeves finished his first round with a score of six-over par, and is five-over in his second round with one to play. He is tied for 58th.
Freshman Aidric Chan sunk four birdies for the day and he is tied for 74th place.
Junior Drake Mendenhall, playing as an individual, sunk a total of eight birdies for the day and is tied for 29th place with a score of five over par.
