Men’s Tennis Welcomes Highest Ranked Prospect in Program History

Tucson, Ariz. – On Signing Day, Gustaf Strom filled out his National Letter of Intent for the University of Arizona and will be joining the Men's Tennis team next fall. Strom is now the highest ranked prospect that the University of Arizona has ever brought into the program.

Strom comes into the program having an ITF ranking high of 35 and an ATP ranking high of 1476. He is the No. 1 junior tennis player from Sweden with UTR high of 14.06. His accomplishments also include competing in the Junior Australian Open and he has been a finalist in doubles in the prestigious 2018 Jr. Orange Bowl.

Quotable:
When asked about choosing Arizona, Strom said, "I have been talking to many schools this past year, but when I first talked to coach Clancy, I knew Arizona was the right school for me." Strom continued to praise the team and its culture saying, "The thing I'm looking forward to most about being a Wildcat is all the team matches we'll play together. We are going to fight so hard for that national championship. Looking forward to be a part of the Wildcat family. Bear down!"

Head coach Clancy Shields had this to say about their newest recruit, " There are certain players who instantly catch your eye when you're out recruiting. Gustaf was one of those players. He is an incredible competitor who thrives under pressure, he moves around the court as good as anyone, and he brings an intensity to each point that is unlike many players. Gustaf also brings an experienced pedigree to our program. He has consistently been one of the top players in Sweden, and internationally. He will certainly add a lot to our team in both singles and doubles, and I know he will raise the standards in the locker room as we push towards our goals. I'm ecstatic to make this signing a reality, I and look forward to welcoming Gustaf on campus in the near future!"
