Arizona Gymnastics Welcomes Six to the Class of 2024

Tucson, Ariz. – Arizona Gymnastics head coach John Court today announced that the team will welcome six new GymCats for the 2021 season. This year's talented class includes Bailey McCabe, Caroline Herry, Madison Courney, Courtney Tsunoda, Elena Deets, and Jessica Castles.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Bailey, Caroline, Madison, Courtney, Elena, Jessica, and their families to our gymnastics program," Court said. "They are all great people, fantastic students, and have a high level of athletic talent. They came to Arizona to grow as people, develop as athletes and push the program forward. It's been enjoyable getting to know all of them during the recruiting process, they balance each other well, and will thrive for competitive excellence."
 
Bailey McCabe | Maple Valley, Wash. | Auburn Gymnastics Center
Bailey McCabe comes to Arizona from Auburn Gymnastics Center in Washington. McCabe was a two-time Western qualifier and three-time Junior Olympic National qualifier. She finished third on the uneven bars at the Junior Olympic Nationals in 2018. She also competed at the Level 10 Regionals in 2018, where she placed first on the uneven bars and second in the all-around.
 
"Bailey has the skills to be an amazing bar worker in college," Court said. "We expect her to be a quality all-around gymnast for us and make an immediate impact"
 
Caroline Herry | Argyle, Texas | Texas Dreams
Caroline Herry trains at Texas Dreams and finished sixth in the all-around at the 2018 National Championships. Herry was a four-time JO National qualifier. She also competed in the 2018 Region 3 Championships where she placed third on floor and seventh on vault and the all-around.
 
"Caroline has power, artistry and competes at a national level," Court said. "Her events are well-balanced and she has the big gymnastics that can help move a program."
 
Madison Courney | Tucson, Ariz. | Arizona Dynamics
Madison Courney is a Tucson native and trains at Arizona Dynamics. She competed in the 2017 Region 1 Championships and the 2017 Arizona State Championships. At the Region 1 Championships, Courney placed fourth on the uneven bars, seventh on vault and floor, and tenth in the all-around. At the Arizona State Championships she finished fourth on the uneven bars and balance beam, fifth on floor, sixth on vault, and fourth in the all-around.
 
"It's a focus point of our program to keep Tucson student-athletes at home and we are thrilled that Madison is a Wildcat," Court said. "She has all the tools and desire to be an impact player for us."
 
Courtney Tsunoda | Aliso Viejo, Calif. | Azarian Gymnastics Training Center
Courtney Tsunoda, who trains at Azarian Gymnastics Training Center, was the 2018 Southern California State Bar Champion and was a top performer at the 2017 and 2018 Region 1 Championships and the 2017 National Championships. At the 2018 Region 1 Championships, Tsunoda placed second on floor and third on the balance beam. She finished fourth on the uneven bars at the 2017 National Championships. At the 2017 Region 1 Championships, she placed first on the uneven bars, second on the balance beam, fifth on floor, and third in the all-around.
 
"We expect Courtney to excel at Arizona," Court said. "Her strengths are the uneven bars and beam, but she is also very quick and powerful which will make her competitive across all events for us."
 
Elena Deets | Maple Grove, Minn. | Twin City Twisters
Elena Deets, who trains with the Twin City Twisters, took home first place on the balance beam, floor, and the all-around at the 2018 Region 4 Championships. She was a four-time Junior Olympic National qualifier. At the 2018 National Championships, she placed first on floor, fourth on the balance beam, and fifth on vault. Deets finished first on vault, floor, and the all-around and third on the balance beam at the 2017 Region 4 Championships. 
 
"Elena will bring consistency and confidence to Arizona," Court said. "She has posted very high scores nationally during her club career and has strong skill sets on all four events"
 
Jessica Castles | Fleet, England | Heathrow Gymnastics Club
Jessica Castles comes to Arizona from Fleet, England where she trains at Heathrow Gymnastics Club. Castles was a team member of the Swedish National team, the 2018 and 2019 World Championship team, competed at the European Games, the European Championships, and the World Cup. She was the 2018 Swedish National Champion in the all-around and was a bronze medalist on floor at the 2019 European Games. She was a beam finalist at the 2018 World Cup, a floor finalist at the 2018 European Championships and an all-around finalist at the 2019 European Championships.
 
"Jessica has competed internationally on the biggest stages," Court said. "Her artistic gymnastics and experience is a huge addition to our program and she will thrive at the collegiate level."
