Schulz Named Volunteer Assistant Coach

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona beach volleyball head coach Steve Walker has announced the addition of former UA standout Katarina Schulz to the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to bring Kat on in this role," Walker said. "Not only does she possess the ability to break down and teach the skills at a high level, but there were few players I have ever seen perform with such ease at the most pressure filled moments.  I know our players will really benefit from having such a terrific teacher of the game and quality person on staff. She will be able to reach and connect with all of our players on a number of levels."

Schulz transferred to Arizona to play her senior season in 2016 after spending three years at the University of the Pacific. In her one season with the Wildcats, she helped guide them to the NCAA Tournament, where she would collect all-tournament team honors after being named Second Team All Pac-12 earlier in the year.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity to join the beach volleyball staff at the University of Arizona," Schulz said. "Head coach Steve Walker, assistant coach Emily Kiser and the rest of the staff have done an amazing job in a short period of time of growing the program into one that is successful on the national level. I'm looking forward to joining them and working with the student-athletes."

Despite competing at Arizona for just one season, she left a mark all over the UA beach volleyball record books. She is tied for sixth in career wins by a pair, seventh in season wins by a pair and career individual winning percentage and tied for eighth for a season winning percentage by a pair.

In her three years at the University of the Pacific, she competed in both indoor and outdoor volleyball and had a decorated career in both. Schulz was a First Team All-West Coast Conference honoree as a junior after picking up honorable mention accolades her first two seasons. She was also a Capital One Academic All-District recipient following her sophomore season. He freshman season of beach volleyball was also the inaugural season of beach volleyball at Pacific, where she was part of the top duo on the team and advanced to the 2013 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship.

Schulz earned a degree in Health and Exercise Science from the University of the Pacific and a doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northern Arizona University.
