Tucson, Ariz. – The Wildcats improved to 6-1 on the season after their 6-1 victory over Fresno State. Arizona's goal to improve their doubles play in practice was evident in today's match as the Cats earned the doubles point with big wins from the duo of senior
Jonas Maier/sophomore
Carlos Hassey and the pair of junior
Alejandro Reguant/sophomore
Filip Malbasic.
Arizona clinched the victory after Malbasic improved his singles record to 6-0 on the season with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Zdenek Derkas on court one. Arizona went on to defeat the Bulldogs in five of the six singles matches played.
This Sunday, head coach
Clancy Shields improved his head to head record against his older brother Luke to 4-2 over his career.
"Solid weekend from the boys and vastly improved from the week before," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "Happy to come away with two convincing wins against very solid opponents. There is something special about this group. They care about each other, they play hard for one another, and they are a real joy to coach. We have a couple days before the Blue Gray Tournament, and I know our guys are excited to have a good week of practice."
Next weekend the Wildcats are traveling to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the Blue Gray Tournament against seven different programs. The tournament will take place from Feb. 22-24.
