TUCSON, Ariz. – Jenny Leung has proven that she is just as valuable in the gym as outside of the gym. A junior on the Arizona Gymnastics team, Leung excels in every aspect of her life. Most recently, she landed an internship with Nike as a part of their 2019 summer program. Leung will be working as a Procurement intern at Nike Headquarters in Portland, Ore., where she will get a glimpse into the "The Procurement Analyst Program."
"We are always excited for those that are selected for this internship because of the unique and special opportunity to work for a company like Nike," said
Becky Bell, Associate Athletics Director for C.A.T.S. Life Skills. "Jenny was as prepared as anyone I've ever worked with and stood out to them from the beginning. She went the extra mile, which was recognized and rewarded."
Each summer, Nike extends a summer internship to two student-athletes from Arizona, and after several interviews, Leung was determined to be the right fit for the program.
"We are grateful for this continued partnership and have quite a few former student-athletes now working full time for Nike from this internship," said Bell. "I am confident that Jenny will do an exceptional job representing The University of Arizona and Arizona Athletics this summer and we are all very proud of her."
"This is what the big picture of college athletics is all about," commented head coach
John Court. "Jenny is a great person and student and has excelled and matured during her three years with our program as an athlete. She is very deserving of this internship with Nike and our staff, team, and all the other many gymnasts from this program who have had this internship over the years are very proud of her."
Leung is currently studying at the Eller College of Management, where she is double-majoring in Management Information Systems and Operations Management. She has worked hard for the past three years to excel in both the gym and the classroom. In 2017, Leung was a Scholastic All-American and has maintained a GPA of 3.62 or higher for the past three years. She currently holds a career high of 9.775 on vault and 9.800 on floor.
"After hearing the experience my teammate Lauryn had at Nike this last summer, I knew I wanted to apply to see if I could have to opportunity to do the internship," said
Jenny Leung. "I've heard nothing but great things about the city, the environment, and the campus and I can't wait to work amongst some of the best students and employees at an amazing company. I've had such great support from my recruiter Charlotte, and the talent manager Janelle so I can't wait to see where this opportunity takes me!"
