PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- Day 1 of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic was canceled due to rain, wiping out Arizona's games vs. Missouri and UC Santa Barbara, and wiping out Arizona's 2-0, first-inning lead vs. the Tigers.
The rain started just minutes before the Wildcats took the field vs. the Tigers at 4:10 p.m. PT and increased throughout the first inning.
Taylor McQuillin threw a 1-2-3 top of the first before the offense jumped all over the Tigers in the bottom half. The Wildcats scored two runs on run-scoring singles from
Reyna Carranco and
Dejah Mulipola and had two on with nobody out when the game went into a rain delay.
The day was called shortly after when the rain continued and more was forecasted Thursday evening.
Friday's schedule has been pushed back an hour due to field conditions. Arizona will take on No. 20 Oklahoma State at 4 p.m. PT/5 p.m. MT and Long Beach State at 6:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. MT. Saturday's schedule is to-be-determined, but the Wildcats are scheduled to face No. 4 Oklahoma at 10 a.m. PT/11 a.m. MT and Team Japan in an exhibition game at 12:30 p.m. PT/1:30 p.m. MT.
