In January 2019, junior high jumper
Lillian Lowe arrived in Tucson after two years at the University of Hawaii.
Â
"I love it, it is awesome," said Lowe. "It is everything I thought it would be."
Â
During her time in Hawaii, Lowe put together quite the resume. In 2018, Lowe won the MPSF and Big West high jump contests and earned a bid to the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Â
In 2019 with the Cats, she has won four of six contests and has never finished outside the top-two. Highlighting her debut season with the Cats is a repeat MPSF Championships and a season-best mark of 1.82m (5-11.5) set at the Texas Tech Shootout to earn a 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships bid.
Â
"I'm really happy that I made it, but I'm trying to get my mind in place to win it," Lowe said. "I really think I have a chance to perform well, become an All-American for the first time and I'm just super stoked."
Â
"Coach Blockburger tells me; 'we don't go into a meet to be nervous or be scared, that's why we train really hard. We go into a meet and be super excited to perform well and execute.' Going into this meet using NCAAs last year, I have a lot more experience and I know what to expect because at outdoors last year, I was terrified … I'm going to go in there confident, prepared to execute and jump my hardest."
Â
With her every step of the way in Tucson has been coach
Sheldon Blockburger, who has played a huge role in her athletic development.
Â
"He's awesome," Lowe said. "He's everything I wanted. I wanted a coach who was serious. And someone I could be really close to and someone I could go to for personal things. I feel like I can talk to him about anything. He knows exactly what he's doing, none of the training stuff is on me."
Â
Lowe is one of five high jumpers on the Cats' 2019 roster. She credits her teammates just as much as her coach when it comes to raising the bar.

Â
"I really love the team," Lowe added. "That's something I didn't have, practicing with other high jumpers puts you at a whole new level, you have teammates to train with. It's good athletically, but from the friendships standpoint I got so close with everyone in a matter of weeks."

Â
On May 11th & 12th, Lowe and the Cats will host the Pac-12 Championships at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. She's excited for the chance to represent Arizona in the Conference of Champions at home.
Â
"I want to let people know," she said, "I'm new here but I want to give something to this community and be a part of the Arizona atmosphere and everything that comes with it. I want to get my name out there, my team's name out there and have fun."
