TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona men's golf program heads to Eugene, Ore. to compete in Pac-12 Championships. The tournament, hosted by the University of Oregon at the Eugene Country Club, will span from Monday, April 22
nd to Wednesday, April 24
th and concludes the regular season for the Cats.
"The championship season has arrived and it's time for us to play the golf we expect to play," said head coach
Jim Anderson. "Our team possesses talent and composure necessary and I think this can be a great week for us if we get off to a fast start. We tee off first with two great programs on the 36-hole day, and I could see us really gaining momentum if we can establish good rhythm early. Tee shots will be important along with good iron play on the Par 3's. The course will have significant rough and fortunately, the weather forecast is looking good. Our team is excited to travel together and playing Eugene Country Club for a championship will be something we will really enjoy together."
The Cats will be entering the final tournament of the season averaging 287.73 per round, 2.67 over par. The program tabbed its only win of the season at their home tournament, the Arizona Intercollegiate, scoring an 815, the lowest score of the season. Out of 33 rounds, the team had 13 at par or lower.
Traveling for Arizona will be junior
Briggs Duce, sophomore
Tianlang Guan, junior
David Laskin, senior
Ethan Marcus, junior
Brad Reeves, and sophomore
Trevor Werbylo. This lineup has played a combined 150 this year. Laskin and Werbylo have competed in all 11 tournaments this season, as well as having the two lowest averaging on the team. Both Werbylo and Laskin tallied their highest career finishes this season, Werbylo finishing tied in second at the Arizona Intercollegiate, and Laskin placing second at the Showdown in the Rockies. Reeves trails by one tournament, with his highest finish this season being a tie in 9
th place at the Goodwin. Marcus has had a successful season, making the lineup in all 7 spring tournaments. Guan and Duce have alternated being the fifth man in the lineup frequently this season, with Guan playing five tournaments and Duce in seven.
"The regular season has been fun and a lot of work but it's all part of the process of making it into the postseason," commented Laskin. "I believe that every guy on the travel team is ready to peak at the right time. Our finishes haven't really been reflective of how the team is playing as I feel all our games our close and if we peak at the right times we can have a special postseason. Going into PAC-12's I think that the course sets up really well for us because it requires a lot of precision off the tee and being smart into the greens so I really like how the team stacks up heading into Eugene."
