LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No.13 Arizona Beach Volleyball team took down Stanford 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Merle Norman Stadium to earn its first Pac-12 Championship win of the weekend. The Wildcats now advance to Friday's match in the winner's bracket.
The fourth-seeded Cats will take on the winner of Match No.3, either the one-seeded Bruins or the nine-seeded Ducks, at 12:00 p.m. MST, Friday. A win in this match will allow Arizona to continue to the next round in the winners bracket, while a loss will push the Cats into the contenders bracket.
The first win of the dual was earned by the fours,
Sarah Blacker and
Jasmine Safar. The freshmen pair earned their first Pac-12 Championship win conquering the Cardinal 21-14, 21-13.
Ainise Havili and
Dana Parker followed their lead and earned their first Pac-12 Championship victory and the Cats' second win of the day, 21-15, 18-21, 15-7. A clutch third set win by undefeated
Natalie Anselmo and
Madison Rigdon 21-17, 16-21, 15-7 sealed the deal to earn Arizona's first win of the tournament, and push the Cats through to the next match. The pair is currently 21-0, while the Cats are now 25-4 this season, extending to a 15 -match winning streak.
