TUCSON, ARIZ. – On Saturday night, the University of Arizona track and field team hosted the second annual Desert Heat Classic.

Karolina Pahlitzsch and
James Smith, who all set PRs, highlighted the night with all-time Arizona marks.

Junpin' like Justice
Junior
Justice Summerset set a PR in the high jump with a clearance of 2.25m (7-4.5) to win the event. His clearance is good for the No.5 mark in Arizona school history. Junior
Justin Lewis took second with a mark of 2.11m (6-11). On the ladies side, freshman
Alexa Porpaczy cleared 1.77m (5-9.75) to win her first collegiate contest and set a new PR. Freshman
Diana Ramos came in second with the same mark to set a PR.

Harvey's Hurdlers
Freshman
James Smith clocked a time of 50.11 in the 400-meter hurdles to set a new PR and improve on his Arizona Freshman Record. His time is good for the No. 2 mark in school history. On the ladies side,
Karolina Pahlitzsch clocked a time of 57.43 to win the event, set a new PR and registered the No. 6 mark on the NCAA list. Sophomore
Shannon Meisberger followed in third with a time of 58.24 to set a new PR and junior
April Sutton finished fourth in 58.24 to set a new PR. In the 100-meter hurdles, senior
Tiana Bonds stopped the clock in 13.27 to set a new PR and the No. 6 mark in the Arizona record book.

Throws Excel
The men's throws started the day off with a second-place finish in the hammer throw from
Grayson Fleming with a toss of 61.68m (202-4). Senior
Cody Dalton finished fourth with a mark of 58.45m (191-9) to set a new PR. Sophomore
Jordan Geist won the discus throw with a season-best toss of 56.08m (184-0). He also finished as the top collegiate competitor in the shot put with a mark of 21.07m (69-1.5).

One Lap, A lot of Good
Senior
Tatum Waggoner clocked a season-best time of 52.72 to win her final regular-season race at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Senior
Diana Gajda followed with a time of 53.65 to finish third. On the men's side,
Zakee Washington clocked a time of 46.29 to finish third and set a new PR. The mark is good for the No. 9 mark in school history.
Daniel Egbo finished fifth with a time of 48.01.

Relays Come Together
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Trevor Volpe, Washington,
Daniel Egbo and
PJ Austin clocked a season-best time of 39.73 to finish third. The ladies 4x400-meter relay team of Meisberger, Waggoner, Gajda and Pahlitzsch clocked a season-best time of 3:32.46 to win the event and set the No. 5 mark in school history.

Neysia had a night (again).
At the Jim Click Shootout, Howard tabbed PRs in the three individual events she competed in. Last night at the Desert Heat Classic, she set three PRs in her individual events. In the 100-meter dash, the freshman clocked a time of 11.74 to finish seventh. In the 200-meter dash, she stopped the clock in 23.86 to finish seventh. And she finished third in the long jump with a leap of 6.01m (19-8.75).

Up next, the Cats will host the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships beginning on Saturday, May 4th at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Admission is free to the public.
