LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- A pair of Arizona softball players, junior shortstop
Jessie Harper and senior designated player
Tamara Statman, were named first-team Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District, the association announced. Both Wildcats are now eligible to be Academic All-Americans.
Harper, a sociology major, has a 3.63 GPA. The shortstop was a second-team academic all-Pac-12 honoree in 2018. Earlier this week, Harper was named first-team all-Pac-12 for the third consecutive season. She is second in nation with 24 home runs and leads the Pac-12 in homers, RBI (63) and slugging percentage (.834). This is Harper's first career CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
Statman has a 3.85 GPA and will graduate this week with degree in political science. Statman was a first-team Pac-12 All-Academic as well as a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree as a sophomore in 2017. Statman is hitting a career-high .323 this season with four home runs while getting on base at a .425 clip while slugging .548.Â
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (when selected) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
