TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore
Jordan Geist won the Pac-12 shot put title on Saturday night for the second year in a row at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships, which was delayed due to lightning for over three hours. On the track, six Cats advanced to tomorrow's finals in their respective events.

Due to the delay, the women's shot put and long jump, the men's high jump and pole vault, the men's and women's 800m, 400mH and 200m were all moved to Sunday. The three races on the track will be timed-section finals due to the fact that all there will be more than one heat in each event. Click

Geist won the shot put contest with a mark of 21.08m (69-2). The sophomore became the first male Wildcat to claim back-to-back Pac-12 shot put titles and his mark was the furthest toss at the Pac-12 Championships since 2011. In the hammer throw, Geist finished third with a mark of 65.32m (218-1). The Saxonburg, Penn. native tallied 16 points in day one of the competition.
Grayson Fleming finished sixth in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 65.02m (213-4) to score four points.Â

Bailey Gets the Silver
Bailey Roth took second place in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 8:50.07, adding eight points to the men's score. Roth has finished in the top four in the steeplechase at the Pac-12 Championships three times during his Wildcat career. He won the event back in 2017.

PJ Jumps Long
Freshman
PJ Austin jumped 7.54m (24-9) in the men's long jump, good for third place and six points towards the men's side. Austin, who had to run the 100-meter dash just minutes before finishing out the finals of the long jump due to the lightning delay, was the only freshman in the contest to finish in the top five.

One Lap, A Lot of Good
In the 400-meter dash, four Cats advanced to Sunday's final.
Diana Gajda crossed the line in 52.78 to finish seventh overall,
Tatum Waggoner finished eighth in 53.33. On the men's side,
Umajesty Williams finished in a season-best time of 46.18 and
Zakee Washington finished seventh in 46.39.

Villarreal & Bonds Start Strong
Senior
Tiana Bonds and
Carlos Villarreal will advance to the finals in their respective events. Bonds clocked a time of 13.28 in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second in her heat to qualify for the final. In the 1500-meter run, Villarreal finished third in his heat in 3:49.79 to qualify for tomorrow's final.Â

Ladies 4x1 Punches Ticket
The ladies 4x100-meter relay team of
Tiana Bonds,
Tatum Waggoner,
Pamela White and
Neysia Howard clocked a time of 44.87 to finish second in their heat. The ladies qualify for tomorrow's final, finishing fourth overall.

Sail the Ship
Kaelyn Shipley tossed the javelin 49.84m (163-6), good for a fourth-place finish and five points for the women's team. Carlson-Shipley finished the competition with her best mark in the final throw of the event.

Score Update
The men's side closed out day one of the competition with 36 points and sit in third place while the women's team wrapped up day one in sixth with eight points.
