Pagdaganan Leads, Wildcats in Third after Day One of NCAA Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --The Arizona women's golf team continued its solid play into day one of the NCAA Championship on Friday. The Wildcats finished the day in a tie for third at 12-over-par, two shots back of the lead.
Arizona senior Bianca Pagdanganan played a phenomenal round of 4-under golf, giving her a three-shot lead over the field. Pagdanganan's round consisted of six birdies, including three in a row on holes 5-7.
"For today's round, I stuck to my game plan, which was fairways and greens," said Pagdanganan. "I knew that staying patient was going to be important because of how tricky the greens are. My ball striking and putting were pretty solid too."
Fellow senior Haley Moore shot the next best round of the day, posting a 1-under 72 to get herself into a tie for second. Moore played a flawless, bogey-free back-nine that included birdies on Nos. 13 and 15.
Freshman Ya Chun Chang got off to a hot start and finished the day at 8-over par. Sophomore Yu-Sang Hou carded an 82 to finish a shot back of Chang, and junior Sandra Nordaas rounded out the team with an 84.
"I'm really proud of the team," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Haley Moore and Bianca Pagdanganan shooting 5-under total between the two of them; absolutely outstanding day of golf for those two. They really helped our team stay at the top. I know Sandra Nordaas, Yu-Sang Hou and Ya Chun Chang will all fight back and help us the next three days of stroke play. The golf course is insanely difficult and conditions were tough today. Twenty mph winds, greens very firm, and the scores are insanely high for all the teams. The ladies just need to be patient, stay confident, know that bogeys are going to be out there. Pars are a great score and if birdies come, that's good too. It's definitely a championship-worthy venue."
The Wildcats begin their second round at 5:15 a.m. MST tomorrow morning. The Cats will start on the 10th tee and will once again be paired with Kent State and Wake Forest.
