SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On Thursday, junior high jumper Karla Teran advanced to the NCAA Championships in Sacramento. Eight Cats qualified for quarterfinals in their respective events.

Picking Up Where She Left Off
Teran, two weeks after winning the Pac-12 Championship, closed out the NCAA West Preliminary Round in a tie for first. Teran was perfect on four clearances in Thursday's contest, finishing with a mark of 1.80m (5-10.75). She advances to the NCAA Championships for the second time in her career.

Harvey's Hurdlers
Four Cats will compete in tomorrow's 400-meter hurdle quarterfinal at the NCAA West Regional. Karolina Pahlitzsch auto-qualified with a second-place finish in her heat in 58.31. Shannon Meisberger clocked a time of 58.66 to finish second in her heat and auto-qualify. James Smith and Maksims Sincukovs finished second in their respective heats to auto-qualify for tomorrow's quarterfinal. Smith stopped the clock in 50.84 and Sincukovs clocked a time of 51.04.

Villarreal Gets the Nod
Redshirt junior Carlos Villarreal closed out day one of the NCAA West Preliminary Round with a win in his 1500-meter dash heat to auto qualify for Saturday's quarterfinal. He finished the race in 3:48.41.

One Lap, A Lot of Good
Three Cats in the 400-meter dash group will compete in tomorrow's quarterfinal. Tatum Waggoner posted a time of 52.94 to finish third in her heat and auto-qualify for tomorrow's race. Diana Gajda clocked a time of 53.49 to finish 18th overall and qualify on time. On the men's side, Zakee Washington stopped the clock in 46.66 to finish third in his heat and auto-qualify for tomorrow's contest.

The Cats will continue action tomorrow at the NCAA West Preliminary Round with Jordan Geist kicking off the day in the discus throw at 4 p.m. MST.
