TUCSON, Ariz. – Head coach
Ryan Stotland has received commitments from Abby Amos, Khim Iglupas and Kirsten Prelle to play for the Wildcats starting in the Fall of 2019.
Amos will join Arizona as a graduate student after competing for James Madison for four seasons. During her time in Harrisonburg, Amos collected 32 singles wins and finished with a record of 22-15 last season, helping JMU win their first CAA Championship and qualify for their first NCAA appearance in program history. In 2018, she was named First-Team All-CAA Doubles in 2018 as a junior as she went 7-1 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
"Abby brings four years of collegiate experience with her," head coach
Ryan Stotland said. "She has a great reputation and we are lucky she wanted to go to grad school here so we could have a year with her. She has a reputation of being an extremely hard worker and a leader and we know in her one year she will help us grow and push our program even further. Abby comes to us fresh off helping her university win their first ever conference tournament and advance to their first NCAA berth. We know Abby was a big part of helping that program grow and we are excited she will be a big part of helping this one grow as well."
The Leicestershire, England native came into college ranked No. 6 amongst all Juniors in the United Kingdom. Off the court, she excels in the classroom as she is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and was the James Madison Athletics Director Scholar-Athlete during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
"I decided to come to Arizona because the team and the academics seemed like the perfect fit for me," said Amos. "The work ethic of the team and a very competitive schedule is what I was looking for. I connected well with the coaches as well as the girls and that helped in making my decision. It seems like Arizona Athletics has such a great spirit and supportive network and I'm so excited to be a part of this. I hope to help make history for Arizona women's tennis and I'm looking forward to getting to work with everyone this fall. I can't wait to be a part of the Wildcat family. Bear Down!"
Iglupas, who comes from Iligan City, Northern Minanao, Philippines, has represented the Phillipines in the Fed Cup during the last three years. She competed against Naomi Osaka from Japan, who was the winner of the 2018 U.S. Open and the 2019 Australian Open.
"Khim has a very bright future," Stotland said. "She may be little but she has a big game. We are all very excited to have her at Arizona and she will bring a love of tennis and a passion for life. We know she is really excited about being a Wildcat and we are excited she chose us. Khim will bring a ton of elite level tennis here and I can brag and say there probably is not another recruit who played against the number one player in the world, Naomi Osaka. Not only did she play against her, but got three games against the best player in the world. I think that shows how good Khim is."
In 2015 and 2017, she represented the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games and reached a ranking of 98 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. She is a singles winner of five ITF Grade 4 Tournaments, a doubles winner of one ITF Grade 3 Tournaments, five ITF Grade 4 Tournaments and two ITF Grade 5 Tournaments. She also reached the semifinals of the Asian Closed ITF Grade BI Singles Tournament.
"Being able to study abroad is one of my greatest dreams, but being able to be a wildcat and pursue my studies at the University of Arizona would be the one opportunity I wouldn't want to miss," Iglupas said. "I envisioned myself at Arizona and I saw countless opportunities waiting for me, and when I went for a school visit, I felt how the coaches, the team and the environment of the campus were so warm and welcoming. I felt like I really wanted to be part of this family because they are a group of people who are working with each other towards the goal of allowing everyone to reach their full potential in both aspects of academics and sports. I am very excited to be a part of the Arizona Women's Tennis Team this fall and working with coach Ryan and coach Denise. I'm looking forward to competing for an amazing school and conference. Bear Down!"

"Kirsten did great things for UTEP," Stotland said. "Her experience playing at the No. 1 spot and getting everyone's best every week will be a great bonus for her moving to the Pac-12. Everyone only has the best things to say about Kirsten being a freshman leader and hard worker. I know she has big goals for her career so we look forward to seeing that drive push her in the Pac-12 and get her to reach all the potential she has. She will bring hard work and a true passion to achieve great things here at Arizona."
