Arizona Falls to Washington on Senior Day

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 3 Washington spoiled sixth-ranked Arizona senior day, completing a three-game sweep of the Wildcats with a 7-4 victory on Sunday afternoon in six Wildcat seniors' final regular season home games at Hillenbrand Stadium.

UA celebrated the careers of six seniors – Hillary Edior, Joelle Krist, Taylor McQuillin, Rylee Pierce, Gina Snyder and Tamara Statman – after the game.

After winning a pair of pitchers' duels in the first two games of the series, Washington scored seven runs against Arizona, the most allowed by the Wildcats all season, in a 7-4 Husky win on Sunday. Taylor McQuillin allowed the seven runs on 10 hits over 3.0 innings to suffer her seventh loss of the year. Alyssa Denham entered to get the final 12 outs and surrendered just two hits with four strikeouts over her 4.0 scoreless innings.

Arizona had success against UW starter Gabbie Plain, scoring four runs, three earned, over the first two innings before Taran Alvelo entered and shut Arizona down over the final five innings, giving up just one hit with six strikeouts and earning the win for her 5.0 scoreless innings (22-4).

Jessie Harper hit her 60th career home run on Saturday, a two-run homer that gave the Cats the lead in the bottom of the first. She became the eighth player in Arizona history – and 16th in Pac-12 history – to hit 60 career home runs. Harper joined Katiyana Mauga (2014-17), Stacie Chambers (2008-11) and Leah Braatz (1994-98) as the only four Wildcats to hit their 60th career homer during their junior seasons.

Alyssa Palomino had her third straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double, her Pac-12-best 18th two-bagger of the year to move into seventh in Arizona history in doubles in a season.

The Wildcats will look to regroup before concluding the season at No. 2 UCLA next week. Arizona's Pac-12 Championship hopes are still alive, but would have to sweep the second-ranked Bruins in Los Angeles to have a chance at a share of a conference title. Arizona and UCLA meet Thursday-Saturday at Easton Stadium.
