TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats golf program has seen some of their future and past players turn in some memorable performances all over the world in the last week.
Â
First, incoming freshman Vivian Hou, the younger sister of current Wildcat
Yu-Sang Hou, won the Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Challenge last Friday. She matched the tournament scoring record with an eight-under 64 to win by two strokes.
Â
Hou overcame a five-stroke deficit going into the third round to finish nine-under 207 at the RMB 500,000 China LPGA Tour event played at Shuangshan Golf Club in China. It's the second win against a pro field for Hou, who birdied five straight holes from 13 to 17 to ensure the victory.
Â
Additionally, Gile Bite Starkute, another incoming freshman from Vilnius, Lithuania, won the Polish Ladies Golf Championship last week. She shot seven-under for the tournament, shooting rounds of 67, 70 and 72. She finished her round with a birdie and an eagle on the final two holes to close out the tournament and secure the win.
Â
On top of the performances from the incoming players, the Wildcats saw one of their most recent golfers also excel in a pro event.
Haley Moore, who just wrapped up her Arizona career last month, finished second at the Vegas Legacy event on the Cactus Tour. Moore shot five-under for the tournament, finishing one stroke behind the winner.
Â
Moore and Minhae Gwon were the only two players to finish under par for the tournament. Moore shot 70-70-71 for the three days. She did the majority of her damage on the par fives where she played those at six-under.
