TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Gymnastics tied their program record with 11 GymCats earning Scholastic All-America Awards for the 2019 season from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
Scholastic All-America Awards are presented to student-athletes who earn a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) overall or a 3.5 GPA during the 2018-19 academic year. Wildcats receiving the award this year include
Christina Berg,
Courtney Cowles,
Asia Rose DuVernay,
Sydney Freidin,
Laura Leigh Horton,
MacKinzie Kane,
Jenny Leung,
Maddi Leydin,
Lauryn Mattson,
Danielle Spencer, and
Heather Swanson.
As a team, Arizona ranked No. 26 nationally with a 3.583 GPA. That mark ranked fourth-best in the Pac-12 Conference and was boosted by nearly three-quarters of the Wildcats' roster earning a Scholastics All-America Award.
During the spring, nine GymCats earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors for maintaining a 3.0 GPA and appearing in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions. Cowles and Leydin were named First Team All-Academic and Swanson earned a Second Team honor.
