Wildcats in First Place at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE -- The Arizona men's golf program concluded the second day of play at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate tournament Saturday afternoon in first place. The Cats concluded the first day with a score of 268, which put them in 3rd place behind Clemson and Arizona State. They finished the second round with a total score of 264, putting them at the number one spot at 28-under par.
Arizona has a one shot lead over Clemson and Arizona State heading into the final round, which begins Sunday morning at Mirabel Golf Course.
Senior David Laskin put up the best score for the Wildcats on Saturday, finishing with a 64 (-6) at the end of the day. Laskin finished the day tied for 8th place at seven-under. Senior Briggs Duce finished tied for 6th place, he put up a score of 68 for day 2 after an opening round 64 on Friday.
As solid as the returning Wildcats have been, Arizona has been lead by a first-year player in freshman Aidric Chan. He ended the day tied for 3rd place, his score for the day was a 65 after a 66 on Friday.
Rounding out the scores for the Wildcats were senior Brad Reeves, who put up a 67 for the day and finished tied for 20th. Junior Trevor Werbylo scored a 73, he finished in 53rd place.
"Our patience is paying off. We feel prepared with a solid game plan," said head coach Jim Anderson. "Mirabel is a fantastic course in great shape. We have been picking smart clubs off the tees and we are aggressive into the greens. David and Aidric carried us today with great rounds, and Brad had a bogey free round as well. We know the whole team will be ready to contribute in a big way for the final round.Tomorrow, we will be ready for more challenging hole locations and the opportunity to win a golf tournament."
