BATON ROUGE, La. – The Arizona GymCats traveled to LSU for their first meet of the season on Friday night. The GymCats ended with a final score of 195.025, just shy of No. 2 LSU who finished with a final score of 195.725.
Coaches' Corner
"We had a solid season opener and were very competitive tonight," head coach John Court said. "The improvements that need to be made are clear and the team had great composure and confidence. There were some outstanding individual performances and the floor rotation was awesome."
Uneven Bars
The GymCats opened on the uneven bars with a 48.800, tying LSU on the event. Senior
Christina Berg shined with a 9.90, earning first place. Senior
Heather Swanson scored a 9.775 and freshman
Zaza Brovedani made her debut on bars with a 9.75.
Vault
Arizona scored 48.475 on vault, with four returning vaults and debuting two freshmen,
Danielle Nosek and
Malia Hargrove.
Floor
The Cats earned a 49.125 on floor, with five returning routines and one freshman debut.
Maddi Leydin scored a 9.875, and
Kennedi Davis earned a career-high of 9.85.
Heather Swanson earned a 9.825 and
Christina Berg scored a 9.80.
Balance Beam
The GymCats finished the meet on the balance beam and outscored LSU 48.625-48.550 in the event. Senior
Jenny Leung tied her career-high of 9.85 on beam and freshman
Avery Stauffacher made her debut with a 9.80.
New Career-Highs
Kennedi Davis: FX – 9.850
Jenny Leung: BB – 9.850 (tied)
The Cats will host their home opener in a quad meet against Western Michigan, Iowa State, and Rutgers next Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2:00 p.m. MST in McKale Center.
