SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS

Today is important for me to recognize and thank our great country's veterans for their service and sacrifice. I also want to thank and express my gratitude and appreciation for our veteran's caregivers and families who assist and help take care of so many of our veterans. Today is your day, we owe you so much more for your sacrifice, so we say THANK YOU for your service.
ARIZONA FOOTBALL KICKS OFF
After the disappointing cancellation of Arizona Football's season opener last week at Utah, the entire Wildcat Family is ready to Bear Down on Saturday as we host USC at Arizona Stadium. As a reminder, fans are not permitted in Arizona Stadium for games this season. While we will be unable to welcome all our loyal supporters to campus or Arizona Stadium to cheer on the Wildcats in person, we want to encourage you to watch the 1:30 p.m. (MST) kickoff on FOX or tune in to Brian Jeffries and Lamont Lovett on Wildcats Radio 1290 AM in Tucson or on the TuneIn app. There is no Wildcat Walk, tailgating, or other on-campus gatherings for games this season.
College football means a lot to our University and Southern Arizona community. The opportunity for our student-athletes to take the field and represent the University of Arizona, Southern Arizona and their family is a fundamental part of the student-athlete experience. When you tune in on Saturday afternoon, our football program will be a point of pride for all of us.
Let's all continue to do our part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, so we can return to hosting our terrific fans. I encourage you to follow all CDC guidelines, and to #MaskUp and #BearDown while you cheer on the CATS.
REMEMBERING DONNA SWAIM

The Wildcat Family is saddened by the passing of Donna Swaim. Donna was a fixture at Arizona Athletics for decades as a teacher, mentor, and leader as well as a decorated lecturer and faculty member at the University of Arizona for over 50 years. Her impact on the lives of countless young men and women at the University of Arizona is immeasurable. She is the namesake of the Donna Swaim Honors Lounge in the Student Union as a tribute to her work, but her legacy will live on in all corners of campus and in the hearts of generations of students who knew her. Donna was a Wildcat through and through as well as one of the greatest embodiments of the Wildcat Way we have ever known. Our thoughts and prayers are with all her family, friends and the many Wildcats whose lives she made better.
VIRTUAL HOMECOMING

The 2020 Virtual Homecoming is upon us beginning Thursday of this week. Homecoming is a cherished time for all Wildcats as we take the time to reflect on the impact the University of Arizona has had on all our lives. Unite and celebrate what being a Wildcat means to you and join in on the virtual festivities like the virtual lighting of "A" Mountain or virtual tours and webinars or cooking lessons from UArizona's own Chef Michael Omo. You can cap off your homecoming weekend by tuning into Arizona Football's game versus USC and cheering responsibly.
DAY OF GIVING

In conjunction with Virtual Homecoming this week, we are kicking off the celebration with our Giving Day on Thursday. The University of Arizona's first-ever Giving Day begins at noon on Thursday and rolls on for 24 hours. The Wildcat Family can make gifts during this window of time to support our 500 student-athletes by making a tax-deductible donation to the Wildcat Scholarship Fund. Your generous support throughout these trying times has helped us continue our mission of providing opportunities for student-athletes to become academic, athletic and life champions. You can click here for more information on our Homecoming Day of Giving.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MAKING HISTORY

Congratulations to Arizona Women's Basketball on making history this week with the program's first-ever preseason top-10 ranking in the Associated Press poll. Coach Barnes and the Wildcats are ranked seventh in the nation to begin the season, which cements the program's place among the top programs nationally. The excitement for the 2020-21 basketball season continues to grow as we get closer to tip off as All-American Aari McDonald is already racking up the awards. The team's official schedule is close to being finalized, and we will make sure it is included in future Wildcat Wednesday emails. Bear Down and Go Cats!
POWERING THE RETURN

As we prepare to host our first home sporting event this weekend, it's another reminder of the incredibly hard-working Arizona Athletics staff that have done so much to get us to this point. Our Facilities staff are among our most dedicated units, and they have worked tirelessly over the last seven months behind the scenes to put our programs in a position to return to campus, practice and competition. Led by Suzy Mason, our staff of Mike Hairgrove, Tom Moore, Jacob Gahart and David Oropeza are the team that makes all our facilities operate.
You may not see these outstanding Wildcats but know they are the power behind every practice, game and activity our student-athletes participate it. Thank you to our first-class Facilities team for powering our return, and thanks to all our athletics department staff who put in the hard work to get us to this point because #TogetherWeBearDown.
