TUCSON, Ariz. --Â The Arizona women's golf team comes into the spring season ranked No. 3 in the nation by Golfweek. The Cats concluded the fall season on a high note with a win at the Pac-12 Preview in Hawai'i.
Â
Freshman
Vivian Hou has quickly become one of the nation's top players, and ended the fall season in the top ten of the ANNIKA Award Watch List. She also won Pac-12 Player of the Month in September.
Â
Yu-Sang Hou, Vivian's older sister, also made an appearance on the final Fall ANNIKA Award Watch List. Yu-Sang finished in the top 20 in all three of her fall events, and never finished a tournament at worse than even-par.
Â
Sophomore
Ya Chun Chang was a picture of consistency in the fall, finishing in the top 26 in all five tournaments, including two top-6 finishes. Freshman
Therese Warner came on strong at the end of the fall season, placing third at the East Lake Cup and 10th at the Pac-12 Preview.
Â
"I am excited to get the spring semester off and running," said head coach
Laura Ianello. "We are looking forward to maintaining our positive momentum that we created in the fall semester. With our new roster and six new ladies on the team, we are looking to see who will be a staple in the lineup this spring. We are led by Yu-Sang and
Vivian Hou along with
Ya Chun Chang. We call these ladies the Taiwan National Team because they are the best of the best representing their country for the Cats. Yu-Sang and Vivian have both been invited to compete at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, which is the biggest honor for a female amateur player. Our new players such as
Hollie Muse,
Gile Bite Starkute and
Therese Warner round off the group coming off their wonderful play in the fall. We have depth and the ladies are hungry to fight for more championships this spring. It is going to be fun to watch!"
Â
The Wildcats kick off the spring season on February 9th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, and then travel to Florida for the Hurricane Invitational in early March. The Cats host the Arizona Wildcat Invitational March 9-10 at Sewailo Golf Course. The ASU Invitational and Silverado Showdown are the final gear-ups for the Pac-12 Championships in late April. This year's Pac-12 Championships will be hosted at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California.
