Cats Battle the Elements in Round One of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge
02/09/2020 | Women's Golf
PALOS VERDES, Calif. --The Arizona women's golf team finished day one of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in 11th place at 18-over.
Junior Hollie Muse led the way for the Wildcats, mixing two birdies with four bogeys to post a solid round of 73 (2-over). Freshman Kailie Vongsaga made three birdies in her debut as a Wildcat, ending the day at 4-over and in a tie for 39th. Fellow freshman Therese Warner also opened up her tournament with a 4-over round of 75.
Senior Sandra Nordaas shot an 8-over 79 in her first round, and freshman Gile Bite Starkute shot 9-over to round out the team. Yu-Sang Hou, Vivian Hou and Ya Chun Chang are not with the team this week as they are competing in the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship.
Conditions were tough on Sunday, with rain delaying the round for a couple of hours. Due to the weather delay, four teams will be completing their first round tomorrow morning.
"Disappointing day for the Cats," said head coach Laura Ianello. "We will need some good scores the next few days to climb up the leaderboard. We didn't make many birdies and we made too many mistakes and big numbers. I know the ladies will come back strong tomorrow."
The second round begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. MST.
