Bottom of the Lineup Comes Alive in 11-1 Win

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The bottom four hitters in the Arizona lineup went a combined 7-for-10 with four RBI and six runs scored in Arizona's 11-1, five-inning victory over Saint Joseph's on Tuesday evening at Hillenbrand Stadium in UA's final nonconference tuneup prior to Pac-12 play.

Arizona (22-3) picked up its 11th straight victory, and will take the nation's fourth longest winning streak into Pac-12 play, which begins on Friday at Hillenbrand Stadium vs. Oregon State.

Hannah Martinez went 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI, Ivy Davis went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, Isabella Dayton went 2-for-2 with a double and Janelle Meono had a hit in three at-bats. The four also combined to steal three bases, led by Dayton's two; the freshman leads the team with 10 stolen bases.

Arizona's two hottest power hitters, Jessie Harper and Hannah Martinez, homered again for the Cats. For Harper it was her fourth in her last six games, 10th of the season and 76th of her career, moving her into a tie for fifth place in Arizona history. Martinez's home run was the third in her last six games; the junior entered this stretch with two career big files. The duo combined to drive in five runs with the two home runs, which both occurred in Arizona's eight-run third inning.



Hanah Bowen (2-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Cats, pitching four innings and allowing one run on three hits. She struck out four and walked one. Marissa Schuld pitched a scoreless fifth inning to close out the game.

After a quiet start, Arizona's offense broke out in a big way in the third inning. The Cats scored eight runs on seven hits, including a two-run home run from Harper and a three-run blast from Hannah Martinez. Reyna Carranco had an RBI double in the inning and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza plated a run with a fielder's choice.

Saint Joseph's got a run back in the top of the fourth with a solo homer.

UA plated three more in the fourth, all with two out. Davis doubled home Hannah Martinez to get the scoring going. Dayton singled to left to put runners on the corners before Dayton and Davis executed a double steal to put the Cats on top 10-1. A wild pitched plated the final run of the game.
