Men's Golf Finishes First Day of Competition in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The Arizona Wildcats men's golf program completed the opening two rounds of play at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at San Diego Country Club on Monday.
The Wildcats are +18 as a team through 36 holes of golf and sit in 15th place overall. University of San Francisco is in first place at -1.
Arizona, which has finished in sixth place or better in every tournament this season, fired a round of two-over in the first round and sat in a tie for fifth place. The Cats were +16 in the second round and dropped on the leaderboard.
All four of Arizona's upperclassmen – seniors David Laskin, Brad Reeves and Briggs Duce and junior Trevor Werbylo -- are tied for 40th after the first two rounds at +5. Werbylo had the low round in the first round at one-under 71, before shooting a 78 in the second round.
Duce shot an even par 72 in the first round and followed it up with 77 in the second. Laskin shot a 73 in the opening round, before a 76 in the second, while Reeves went 74-75. Freshman Aidric Chan is tied for 77th after the second round at +9.
Arizona also sent three golfers, freshmen Hayden Sayre and Chase Sienkiewicz and junior Drake Mendenhall, to the 2020 Coronado Individual also in San Diego. Sienkiewicz is tied for seventh at -1 after 36 holes. He shot a 69 in his second round. Mendenhall is tied for ninth at even par, while Sayre is tied for 16th at +3.
The Wildcats will close play Tuesday with 18 more holes of golf both at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic and the Coronado Individual.
