LEADING OFF
  • Fourth-ranked Arizona enters the week one of the hottest teams in the nation, riding a 10-game winning streak into the week, including a four-game sweep of the Wildcat Invitational.
  • Arizona's 10-game winning streak is the fourth longest nationally, trailing just Eastern Kentucky (16 games), Mississippi State (13 games) and Stephen F. Austin (12 games).
  • Last weekend, Arizona head coach Mike Candrea claimed the lead in the battle to become the winningest coach in NCAA history. He and Michigan's Carol Hutchins entered the week tied with 1,628 wins and the Wildcats went 4-0 while Michigan went 2-2 on the week.
  • During Arizona's 10-game winning streak, its pitchers have allowed two-or-fewer runs in nine of the 10 games and have posted a a 1.38 ERA in that span with 72 strikeouts and just 18 walks in 66 innings.
  • Seniors Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza and Jessie Harper have been red hot at the plate; Palomino-Cardoza is hitting .407 with six extra-base hits in the winning streak while Harper is hitting .400 with four homers.
  • Harper hit two homers in the Wildcat Invitational, helping her take over the Pac-12 lead with nine home runs. She led the Pac-12 and the NCAA with 29 in 2019. Harper has 75 career home runs entering the week, sixth in school history and tied for 14th in NCAA history.
  • The Wildcats open Pac-12 play this week with a three-game series vs. Oregon State (Friday-Sunday), but will face Saint Joseph's in a midweek contest on Tuesday evening first.
  • Arizona has stolen 22 bases in 23 tries this season, already exceeding last season's 62-game total of 14. Two UA freshmen, Isabella Dayton and Janelle Meono, have combined for 12.
  • Arizona has the NCAA's two active career home runs leaders; Jessie Harper leads the way with 75 while Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza is second with 61.
  • The Wildcats also have the current NCAA leader in career winning percentage. Mariah Lopez has a career record of 62-4 (.939). She needs nine more decisions to be eligible for the NCAA record, held by Arizona's Nancy Evans (120-8, .938).
