TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Athletics will begin the process of having its student-athletes return to campus for voluntary physical training, beginning with a group of football student-athletes on June 15. Student-athletes from Arizona's athletic programs, alongside select athletics staff, will return in phases on a weekly basis following June 15 with priority to those who compete in the fall. All student-athletes and staff members on campus will follow significantly elevated safety protocols for testing, tracing and treatment.
Â
The process of student-athletes returning to campus is being implemented under the guidance of the athletics department's Re-Entry Planning Team as well as the University of Arizona's Re-Entry Task Force. The phased re-entry plan will follow local, state and national health and safety guidelines and also adheres to recommendations from the Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA.
Â
"The phased re-entry of student-athletes is the next step in Arizona Athletics' commitment to a safe and healthy return to campus," said Vice President and Director of Athletics
Dave Heeke. "This comprehensive plan to bring student-athletes back to campus is a collaboration between our athletics department and campus partners to develop guidelines, protocols and procedures. I want to thank President Robbins and University leadership for their guidance and vision for bringing Wildcats back to campus. There are many factors that remain beyond our control, and our athletics department will still face some uncertainty before completely reopening. However, our intent remains a return to competition."
Â
The athletic department's Re-Entry Planning Team, in conjunction with the University of Arizona's Re-Entry Task Force, will announce additional details of the return of student-athletes and other information at a later time.
