Coach McCreary delivered the following statement upon retirement:
Ā
"To my colleagues, former and current athletes, recruits, and my dear friends and supporters,
Ā
You have all had such a tremendous impact on my life. The time has come, after 44 years of the most amazing journey, that I bow out and pass the torch. Gymnastics has been my life and love for so many years and will continue to be as I enter the next chapter of my life. There are so many people I would like to thank and recognize. Elliott, Tom, Mike and the facilities crew for making my job so easy every day, especially on meet day!
Dave Heeke, our fearless leader. I also want to recognize the amazing staff that are my family.
Rob Harris, Sam Yeoman and her gang, you keep us strong and healthy in the good and tough times. To coach
Taylor Spears, thanks for being one of the best at what you do from conditioning, equipment, marketing, training plans, etc., all while being a good friend as well!
John Court, a great head coach and one of my best friends, you have been such an inspiration to Arizona Gymnastics and to the whole university for over 20 years. I have learned so much from your experience and leadership. Just know that I thank you all for all you have given back to me, as well as the staff and administrators.Ā I do want to personally thank the University of Arizona and
John Court for giving a well-seasoned gym coach a chance. For that you will not be forgotten, neither will all the young women that I have had the privilege to coach and will always be a part of my life. Again, thank you all! Now I can be a fan from the stands! Bear Down!"
