LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Wildcats lost to USC on Friday night, 3-0.
Sofia Maldonado Diaz led the offense with eight kills and
Zyonna Fellows led the defense with four blocks.
Set 1 | Arizona - 14, USC - 25
USC won the first set, 25-14. The Wildcats started out strong, with Maldonado Diaz and
Puk Stubbe picking up three kills each in the first set. In the middle of the set, the Trojans went on a run that the Cats couldn't come back from despite a solo block from Fellows and a block assist from
Jaelyn Hodge and
Merle Weidt.
Set 2 | Arizona - 15, USC - 25
The Trojans took a two-set lead, winning 25-15 in Set 2. Hodge recorded three kills while Maldonado Diaz and Stubbe each had two kills, but Arizona's offense couldn't keep up with USC's attack.
Kamaile Hiapo and Stubbe both served aces early on to help the Cats slow down the Trojans at the start.
Alayna Johnson and Stubbe combined for a block assist near the end of the set but USC took the final few points.
Set 3 | Arizona - 11, USC - 25
In the final set, Maldonado Diaz recorded three kills again and Fellows found her rhythm at the net, picking up three blocks and a kill. Despite Arizona's effort, the Trojans took the final set, 25-11.
