TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona GymCats faced off against their in-state rivals, the No. 17 ranked Arizona State Gym Devils, on Wednesday afternoon in Tempe. Arizona posted a final score of 194.750 to finish second in the meet.

Arizona's final score was an improvement of nearly a point over Saturday's team score against Washington. Wednesday was the first of two meetings between the GymCats and Gym Devils this year — the two squads will square off once more, again in Tempe, on Saturday, March 6.

Uneven Bars

Arizona opened the afternoon on bars where they posted a 48.750. Malia Hargrove led the way for the GymCats, notching a career-high 9.825 on the event. Bailey McCabe and Elena Deets were close behind, contributing solid routines for a pair of 9.775 scores.

Vault

Next up was vault, where the GymCats put together their second-best performance of the year for a 48.850 — their only better mark in the event was a 48.975 in week two against UCLA. Freshman Jessica Castles posted a career-best 9.850 to lead Arizona in the event and finish fourth overall. Libby Orman, in just her second-ever vault routine, posted a career-high 9.750.

Floor Exercise

Arizona's third rotation took them to floor, where they ultimately posted a 48.300. The highlight of the event was a 9.850 from Deets that bested her previous career-high, led the team, and ranked third overall.

Balance Beam

The GymCats closed out the afternoon on beam with a 48.850. Castles and Caroline Herry, a pair of freshmen, both posted scores at or above 9.8 to lead the team. Herry's 9.8 tied her previous career-high mark in the event.
