TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona GymCats punctuated their 2021 regular season with a second-place finish in Saturday afternoon's Senior Day tri meet against Air Force and Southern Utah.
Arizona's 196.00 was their second-best performance of the year, and second straight score of 196 or greater, giving them positive momentum heading into the Pac-12 Championships next weekend in Utah.
Vault
Arizona opened the meet strong with a 48.800 on vault, their third-best score of the year on the event. Freshman
Jessica Castles led the charge on vault, posting a 9.850 to tie her career-high mark and finish tied for second on the event.
Uneven Bars
The GymCats rotated to bars next, where they notched a 48.950. Sophomore
Malia Hargrove won the event outright with a career-high mark of 9.850. She was joined in the 9.8+ club by
Bailey McCabe and
Sirena Linton.
Balance Beam
Next up for Arizona was beam, where the GymCats rotation excelled and matched their season-best mark at 49.150. Freshman
Caroline Herry tied for first on the event and shattered her previous career-high score with a 9.900.
Floor Exercise
For the fourth time this year, and the second meet in a row, the GymCats posted a 49+ on floor, this time going for 49.100 on the backs of multiple strong routines. Hargrove led the lineup with a 9.875 that placed second on the event, and
Libby Orman tied her career-high of 9.850 to finish third. Sophomore
Mackenzie Barile notched a 9.800 to set a career-high.
All-Around
Hargrove and Castles both competed in the all-around, with the latter accomplishing the feat for the first time in her career. Hargrove's 39.225 set a career-high, while Castles went for 38.925.
